Sofia Savelava

Originally from Minsk, Sofia currently lives in Warsaw. Before the end of the Soviet Union she worked as a teacher and guidance counsellor and is now an expert and consultant in the field of education. Sofia participated in charitable relief efforts after the Chornobyl disaster, as well as in educational reform programs in the 1990s.

Originally from Minsk, before the collapse of the USSR Svetlana was the director of the student philharmonic orchestra at the Institute of Culture. Svetlana was also a co-founder of the “Alternative Cinema” club. She is a witness to the emergence of the first civil society structures in Belarus.

Currently living in Poland, until 1990 Ljavon was a university lecturer in Belarus, eventually joining the opposition and participating in the proclamation of an independent Republic of Belarus. He has been imprisoned several times under Lukashenko’s regime.
