Pikria was a student of Tbilisi State University at the philology faculty in the 1980s. From 1983-1984 she was one of the organizers and leaders of students’ and youth protest movements against Soviet mega-projects in Georgia such as the Transcaucasian railway and the Khudoni dam because of their possible negative effects on the environment. Pikria Chikhradze was one of the founders of the alternative youth edition in TSU – Press-Club. At the end of 1980s in parrellel with the first stage of a mass political protests, she was very active in permanent protests defending the Gareji monastery complex, which was used as an artillery range by the Soviet army. Later, like the majority of youth protesters, she was involved in the mass protest movement of 1989-1991.
